HARRISBURG – Sen. Camera Bartolotta (R-46) today announced two school districts in the 46th Senatorial District have been awarded Environmental Education Grants through the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, supporting innovative, hands-on learning opportunities for students.
The grants are part of a more than $1 million statewide investment aimed at expanding environmental education and supporting a wide range of initiatives, including summer camps, stream and watershed research, outdoor classrooms and community-based environmental programs.
“Giving students real-world, hands-on learning is essential for preparing them for the future,” said Bartolotta. “These grants will help students in our area learn more about the environment, discover possible careers and appreciate the natural resources that make Pennsylvania a great place to live.”
California Area School District was awarded $29,823 for Teaching Sustainability Through Honeybee Behavior and Genetics workshops. In partnership with two additional school districts, the program will feature nine monthly workshops focused on honeybee science and environmental education. Students will engage in experiments and explore environmental challenges using real-world data.
Charleroi Area School District was awarded $5,000 for the Charleroi Area School District Edible Learning Lab. The project will convert and expand an existing greenhouse into a year-round growing lab, where students will learn about plant science, hydroponics and sustainable agriculture.
