HARRISBURG – Communities in Beaver, Greene and Washington counties will benefit from a series of grants to support affordable housing projects throughout the region, according to Senator Camera Bartolotta (R-46).
Grants totaling nearly $2.9 million were announced by the Pennsylvania Housing Financing Agency today, including:
- $55,000 for equipment upgrades for The Cornerstone of Beaver County.
- $40,000 for WAVE Housing Services to provide counseling and long-term support.
- $50,000 for rental/utility assistance for the Community Development Program of Beaver County.
- $100,000 for home modifications for the Community Development Program of Beaver County.
- $100,000 for Crossroads Shelter of Beaver County.
- $100,000 for Greene County’s Home Purchase Fund.
- $720,000 for final phase development of Old Rogersville School.
- $200,000 for interior environmental rehabilitation of California Manor at California.
- $100,000 for Blueprints’ Reentry Housing and Self-Sufficiency Program.
- $225,000 for Washington County Land Bank Homebuyer Assistance Program.
- $450,000 for South Strabane Community Housing Project.
- $125,000 for Washington County Habitat for Humanity Project.
- $50,000 for Washington County’s Home Purchase Fund.
- $515,000 for Heritage Donora Tower.
- $100,000 for construction and rehabilitation of Canonsburg Senior Lofts. (this project was also awarded more than $541,000 in tax credits)
“Finding and maintaining affordable housing is one of the biggest challenges facing low-income families, and the pandemic has magnified this problem throughout the state,” Bartolotta said. “I appreciate the fact that these grants will help ease that burden on many members of our local communities and offer them the support they need to achieve financial independence.”
The grants were awarded through the Pennsylvania Housing Affordability and Rehabilitation Enhancement Fund (PHARE), which was created in 2010 to assist with the creation, rehabilitation and support of affordable housing throughout Pennsylvania. Funding for the grants is provided by the impact fee charged on natural gas drilling in the Marcellus Shale region and the state’s existing Realty Transfer Tax.
