HARRISBURG – Senator Camera Bartolotta (R-46) took the oath of office to begin representing residents of Beaver, Greene and Washington counties during a ceremony on the Senate floor in Harrisburg today.
“It is an incredible honor to serve in the Senate, and I deeply appreciate all of the support and encouragement I have received from community residents over the past several months,” Bartolotta said. “Our region faces a unique set of challenges in terms of promoting job growth, supporting a quality education system and protecting our environment. I look forward to working with my new colleagues in the General Assembly to tackle these issues.”
Prior to her election to the Senate, Bartolotta opened the first quick-lube business in the Mon Valley, Duke of Oil, which has been providing quality, affordable service for more than 25 years. Experience in the private sector helped her better understand the challenges faced by workers and families.
“As I traveled throughout the 46th District last year, people in every community from Aliquippa to Greensboro talked to me about the pressing need to create new, good-paying jobs in our area,” Bartolotta said. “Getting our local economy back on track will be one of my highest priorities. The natural gas industry has a large role in generating this growth, but I am also committed to ensuring it’s developed in a safe and responsible way. Additionally, I will work to advocate keeping the impact fee in place for Marcellus Shale gas wells.”
The incoming Senator also spoke about the need for government reform and the importance of leading by example. Bartolotta has fulfilled her campaign promises by declining the state pension and per diem payments, and has announced plans to introduce a Constitutional amendment that would protect taxpayers by limiting the out-of-control growth in state government spending.
In addition to job creation and government reform, Bartolotta listed education, energy independence, natural resource development and environmental protection as some of her highest priorities as the General Assembly begins the 2015-16 legislative session.
Bartolotta recently opened district offices in Canonsburg and Waynesburg. In the near future, a third district office will be available in Monongahela and a satellite office in Hopewell Township to ensure local residents can stay connected with state government and receive assistance with any questions regarding government programs, agencies and services.
