Elementary Schools in Beaver, Washington Counties Receive Grants for Healthy Meal Options

HARRISBURG – Three federal grants were awarded today to help elementary schools in Beaver and Washington counties offer fresh fruits and vegetables to students, according to Senator Camera Bartolotta (R-46).

The grants, totaling more than $103,000, were awarded to Aliquippa School District, Ambridge Area School District and Washington School District as part of the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program. The program is designed to help offer healthier school meal options for students in order to improve the present and future health of young people.

The program is targeted to school districts that have a free and reduced meal eligibility of 50 percent. Nearly $5 million was awarded to elementary schools throughout Pennsylvania in the current round of funding.
