School Safety Grants Awarded in Local Communities

HARRISBURG –Senator Camera Bartolotta (R-46) announced today that local schools will receive grants totaling more than $300,000 to help reduce violence and improve student safety.

Six local districts were each awarded grants of up to $20,000 through the Safe Schools Equipment Grant program, which is designed to aid schools in getting the training and resources they need to create a safe learning environment for students. Awardees included:

  • Canon-McMillan School District
  • Charleroi School District
  • Intermediate Unit 1
  • McGuffey School District
  • Mon Valley Career and Technical Center
  • Western Area Career and Technical Center.

In addition, four grants of at least $40,000 were awarded as part of the Safe Schools School Police/Resource Officer Grant program, which provides financial assistance for the training and compensation of school resource officers and school police officers over a two-year period. Recipients included:

  • Burgettstown Area School District
  • Canon-McMillan School District
  • Charleroi School District
  • Trinity Area School District.
