Mon Valley Officials, Statewide Housing Experts to Testify at Blight Hearing

MONONGAHELA – Local officials and statewide housing experts will offer testimony regarding blight remediation at a hearing of the Senate Urban Affairs and Housing Committee on April 29 in Washington County, according to Senator Camera Bartolotta (R-46).

The hearing will be held at the Carrol Township Building, 130 Baird Street at 6 p.m.

Testifiers will include:

  • County Commissioners Association
  • Housing Alliance of Pennsylvania
  • Middle Monongahela Industrial Development Association
  • Mon Valley Mayors Association
    • Brownsville Mayor Lester Ward
    • Donora Mayor Don Pavelko
    • Monessen Mayor Lou Mavrakis
    • Monongahela Mayor Bob Kepics
  • Pennsylvania Community Bankers Association
  • U.S. Department of Agriculture
  • Washington County Redevelopment Authority

“Blight is a difficult problem to solve because no two communities are exactly alike. The strategies that work in Philadelphia or Erie may not be useful in our area,” said Bartolotta, who serves on the Urban Affairs and Housing Committee. “I appreciate the fact that this hearing gives our local officials a chance to share their perspectives with lawmakers so we can make progress toward returning blighted properties in our region to productive use.”

Additional information, including video of the hearing, will be available at www.senatorbartolotta.com.
