State Historical Grants Support Museums in Washington, Greene Counties

HARRISBURG – Recently awarded state grants will support organizations dedicated to preserving local history in Washington and Greene counties, according to Senator Camera Bartolotta (R-46).

Grants totaling more than $17,800 will support the ongoing operations of the Washington County Historical Society in downtown Washington and the Pennsylvania Trolley Museum in Chartiers Township, as well as the Greene County Historical Society in Waynesburg. The funds were allocated as part of the Cultural and Historical Support Grant Program and administered by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission.

“Local museums offer a fresh perspective on history by preserving and sharing interesting pieces of our regional heritage,” Bartolotta said. “These grants will help to support the mission of our local museums to bring our local history to life and preserve our historical treasures.”

The Cultural and Historical Support Grant Program provides general operating support to museums and official county historical societies that are not supported by other state agency funding sources. The initiative is providing grants to 121 facilities statewide in the 2014-15 fiscal year.
