Celebrating National Health Center Week

Today concludes National Health Center Week, but I attended a few events this week to help celebrate and spread awareness of our Community Health Centers. On Monday, I attended the Grand Opening of Centerville Clinics Washington Pharmacy located in their Washington Family Doctors office on Highland Avenue.

Centerville Clinics also broke ground on their new Family Medicine facility in Donora, Washington County, which is slated to open next spring. Centerville has been a staple of high-quality, compassionate care for residents in Fayette, Greene, and Washington Counties for 70 years. They are the fifth-largest community health center in Pennsylvania.

Congratulations to Joseph Yablonski, Board President; Barry Niccolai, CEO; Ben Neil, COO; Dr. Daniel Holt, Medical Director; and the entire Centerville team. We are blessed to have this wonderful non-profit in our area.

I also couldn’t agree more with Donora council member, Fred Berestecky, who reminded everyone at the groundbreaking that Donora is the “Home of Champions,” and that Centerville Clinics is a “Championship Organization.”

This week I also visited Cornerstone Care’s headquarters in Mt. Morris, Greene County. They serve Southwestern PA with affordable, quality comprehensive care for everyone.

I was pleased to join CEO Rich Rinehart and the Mt. Morris team on a tour of their wonderful facility. They offer many services from vision to dentistry, behavioral health to psychiatry, and so much more. We even had a chance to stop in the pharmacy and visit a class of Residents who all had very impressive backgrounds.

Cornerstone Care really does cover everything, and we are very lucky to have them based right here in the 46th District. Thank you for all that you do, and I will continue to advocate for your success both here in the Southwestern PA and in Harrisburg.

Flipping the Switch on Economic Progress

Lighthouse Electric, a leader in the electrical and technological design and construction industry in the eastern United States, hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony this week to celebrate relocating a portion of its fabrication and kitting production to a new 100,000-square-foot facility in Canton Township in Washington County.

The facility will employ up to 75 high-wage employees who will fabricate and prepare electrical kits for Lighthouse Electric. By the end of the year, the company will occupy an additional 65,000 square feet of the building on which construction has begun. The location, which has remained dormant for decades, was the site of a former Brockway Glass manufacturing facility.

The move to the Brockway location continues Lighthouse’s planned growth over the next five years. This Brockway phase of Lighthouse’s relocation plans coupled with initial discussions with local and state officials to move the company’s headquarters and to build an additional fabricating facility in the city of Washington gives Lighthouse the opportunity to increase its annual revenue from $330 million to more than $750 million and to increase jobs in Pennsylvania by at least 500 for a total of more than 1,000 high-paying, skilled jobs by 2030.

Thank You for Shredding

It was an absolutely incredible turnout for my Identity Theft Prevention Shredding Event last Saturday at Ringgold High School. My staff certainly got their workouts in. We shredded 19 full totes which I would consider a pretty successful day. Thank you to everyone who came out.

I would like to sincerely thank Tom Thompson from Ringgold High School who made sure the whole event ran smoothly and as always, thank you Steel City Shredding (Veteran Owned) and our driver/operator Mike for shredding everyone’s sensitive documents.

New Law Extends PA Guard Family Education Benefit

The Military Family Education Program (MFEP) covers the cost of a state college education for dependents of Pennsylvania National Guard members in return for a six-year service obligation. We passed a new law ensuring additional dependents are covered each time the member commits to an additional service obligation.

The benefit is an incentive to encourage talented Guard members to continue their service to the commonwealth and nation. Many Guard members who benefited from the MFEP are deciding whether to commit to another six years.

Act 32 of 2025 clarifies that a Guard member can receive a new MFEP assistance grant – helping an additional dependent – with each new service obligation. I was proud to support this family benefit for our men and women in uniform.

Senate Acts to Ensure More Efficient Government Spending

The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission would be able to spend funds more efficiently under legislation passed by the Senate. The aim is to keep costs as low as possible for anglers and boaters.

Currently, commission revenues are directed into either the Fish Fund or the Boat Fund, with no crossover permitted. This rigidity has led to inefficiencies and higher costs.

Senate Bill 800 permits Fish Fund dollars to be used for expenditures and programs that benefit boaters and Boat Fund dollars to be used for expenditures and programs that benefit anglers, as long as they also benefit the original intent of the respective funds. The bill was sent to the House of Representatives for consideration.

How to Avoid Heat-Related Illnesses

Summer is the time for outdoor fun, but heat can cause serious and potentially fatal health problems such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

When it’s sweltering out, avoid heat-related illnesses by limiting activity to mornings and evenings when possible, drinking plenty of fluids and getting out of the sun when necessary.

You can learn about spotting symptoms of heat stroke and heat exhaustion here.

Planning a PA Capitol Visit

Your Pennsylvania Capitol is not only the seat of state government, it’s also an architectural and artistic treasure to be experienced by citizens from across the commonwealth.

Visitors are welcome to explore the building at their leisure on regular weekdays. You can also schedule a tour with a guide. Tours take about 30 to 45 minutes.

You can plan a visit and book a tour of this 119-year-old National Historic Landmark here.

Farmers Markets: A Great Source of Fresh, Healthy Food

This is National Farmers Market Week. Now’s a great time to visit a farmers market for fresh fruits, vegetables and specialty products.

These markets support farmers and provide access to healthy food and flavors you may have never before experienced. Find the best farmers markets near and far at VisitPA or the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
