Elementary Schools in Beaver, Washington Counties Awarded Nutrition Grants

HARRISBURG – Three grants totaling more than $107,000 were awarded today to help elementary schools in Beaver and Washington counties offer fresh fruits and vegetables to students, according to Senator Camera Bartolotta (R-46).

The grants were awarded to Aliquippa School District, Ambridge Area School District and Washington School District as part of the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program, which is designed to offer healthier school meal options for students in order to improve the present and future health of young people.

“Proper nutrition is one of the keys to better health outcomes for students and improved performance in the classroom,” Bartolotta said. “Providing these grants to local schools will help more students understand the value of making good, healthy nutritional choices.”

A total of $5.5 million was awarded to elementary schools throughout Pennsylvania in the current round of funding.
