Growing Greener Grants Support Water Quality Projects in Greene, Washington Counties

HARRISBURG – Local water cleanup efforts received a boost today with the announcement of two new Growing Greener grants in Greene and Washington counties, according to Senator Camera Bartolotta (R-46).

A $207,484 grant was awarded to the Greene County Conservation District to support stabilization and best management practices implementation for clean-up efforts in Browns Creek. A $36,683 grant was awarded to the Washington County Conservation District to implement best management practices at Covered Bridge Meadow.

Both grants were awarded through the state’s Growing Greener grant program, which is administered by the Department of Environmental Protection. The program was created in 1999 to support a variety of projects designed to promote a cleaner, healthier environment.

A total of 106 water cleanup projects statewide received more than $20.7 million in the most recent round of funding. To date, the program has distributed more than $296 million to environmental projects statewide.
