Bartolotta Applauds Compromise on Mining Under Ryerson Station

HARRISBURG – Senator Camera Bartolotta (R-46) issued the following statement today in response to the agreement between Consol Energy and state regulators regarding coal mining activity in Ryerson Station State Park:

“The agreement to not mine within 100 feet of Kent Run is an intelligent compromise that prevents disruptions in the lives of hundreds of coal industry employees and in the local environment. I am thankful that the Department of Environmental Protection and the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources were able to work cooperatively with private industry to finalize an agreement that safeguards the park’s waterways, preserves recreational opportunities and protects jobs that help sustain families throughout the region.

“The Revision Ryerson Taskforce has done an admirable job of developing new recreational opportunities for visitors, and it is encouraging that this agreement will allow those plans to continue. I look forward to working with all stakeholders to ensure these revitalization efforts will realize the full potential of this important local resource.”
