Senate Committees Will Examine Impact of State Agency Mergers in Philadelphia

HARRISBURG – Several Senate panels will gather in Philadelphia on May 18 to host the last of a series of joint public hearings regarding Governor Wolf’s proposal to consolidate the Departments of Health, Human Services, Aging, and Drug and Alcohol Programs into a unified Department of Health and Human Services, according to Senate Intergovernmental Operations Committee Chair Sen. Camera Bartolotta (R-46).

The hearing will include members of the Senate Intergovernmental Operations, Aging and Youth, and Health and Human Services Committees, and Human Services Subcommittee of the Appropriations Committee. Lawmakers will hear testimony from five panels who will offer perspectives on the local impact of consolidation in terms of public health, addiction treatment services, individuals with disabilities, older adult advocacy and older adult services.

The hearing will take place from 12 p.m. until 3 p.m. at Plumbers Local 690 Union Hall, located at 2791 Southampton Road in Philadelphia. Media coverage is invited and appreciated.
