Bartolotta Expresses Relief After Positive Budget News

HARRISBURG – Senator Camera Bartolotta (R-46) released the following statement today following Governor Wolf’s announcement that he would not stand in the way of enactment of the supplemental budget for 2015-16:

“I am extremely grateful that today’s announcement will allow us to finally move on and put this crisis behind us. I appreciate the fact that Governor Wolf took the time to consider his options and ultimately avoided a course of action that would have further endangered our schools, hospitals and agriculture jobs.

“However, I am concerned that Governor Wolf has opted to veto an important component to the supplemental budget, the accompanying fiscal code. It contains the funding formula for basic education and PlanCon, the state’s school construction reimbursement program.

“The challenges we face in the 2016-17 budget are every bit as difficult as those we have confronted over the past year. Nevertheless, this does not mean the budget process has to be as contentious, angry and partisan as what we’ve seen to this point. I am hopeful that closing the book on the 2015-16 budget will allow us to have an open and honest conversation about the future of our state, including the best ways to meet state government’s obligations without overburdening taxpayers.”
